Why join WAO

Why you should consider becoming a member of the
World Autism Organisation (WAO)

Autism Spectrum Conditions affect people of all ages in all parts of the world. The WAO is essentially an organisation of people with these conditions and their families. Although professionals and other  interested parties become members, our primary role is the support of people and their families who are affected by the problems of ASCs.

We are independent of all those with a financial interest in autism, but many of us have gained  experience by taking action ourselves to establish and operate services on a charitable basis. We all  continue to learn from each other and to appreciate and understand more about these conditions.

All improvements in understanding and services have been initiated, or have otherwise involved people with ASCs or their families. This situation will continue. It is important that we are able to share and access new and up to date information.

1. Members will be eligible to provide information that they wish to share, through an area of our website that is dedicated to informing others about their own activities and philosophies. These monographs must be informative and not advertisements for particular products or services. Not yet in place – please, wait for further information on this site.

a) Full members will be permitted up to 2,000 words and 8 photographs.
b) Affiliated members will be permitted up to 1,000 words and 4 photographs.
c) Individual members should they wish, have up to 500 words and 2 photographs.

2. Members will benefit from a 10% reduction on registration fees at conferences operated by the WAO or which are endorsed by the WAO. For Full members, up to 10 members of the member organisation can receive this benefit. The 10 must be nominated by the member organisation. Affiliated members can nominate up to 5 members who will receive this same reduction in registration fees. (Please note that these reductions do not apply to accommodation, travel or other expenses or to social events associated with the conference).

These reductions will often be more than the annual membership fee – enough reason in itself for joining!

3. The WAO will assist member organisations with their own events in terms of advice, publicity and, where appropriate, speakers.

4. There will be an “Open Door Policy” whereby visits to services operated by other members will be encouraged. The WAO has already established exchange visits with groups interested in Schools and Adult Services.
5. Members may submit material they would like disseminated via email to the WAO members
Approval of material for distribution will be at the discretion of the Executive Committee or appointed sub-committee.
6. A list of members (subject to their approval) will be included in the program of conferences hosted or endorsed by the WAO.

7. Access to papers will be available from presentations from the WAO conferences or other events endorsed by the WAO.

8. The main reasons for becoming a member are to share in the experiences of others, to contribute to
the development of understanding in those parts of the world where no support or even hope exists,
and to add your voice to the campaigns to promote the wellbeing and happiness of people with Autism
Spectrum Conditions.

9. We would greatly appreciate your involvement to make the WAO a vibrant, significant and effective
organisation.
